Background
What?
An Artistic Discovery, coordinated
by Members of Congress, is the annual Congressional High School Art Competition.
This past year Members of
Congress conducted local art competitions in their districts. The
winning piece of art from each district is on display as part of the national
exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the U.
S. Capitol.
Since the competition was
first launched in 1982, nearly 5,000 local contests have been conducted
that have involved more than 650,000 high school students.
Why?
An Artistic Discovery provides
Members and the public the opportunity to encourage and recognize the rich
artistic talents of young Americans.
How?
Contests were conducted locally
at the discretion of each Member within the broad guidelines established
in accordance with House regulations established by the Committee on House
Administration and Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.
This competition is coordinated locally through Fourth District U.S. Representative David Price's office. Current high school visual arts students in the Fourth District counties of Orange, Durham, and Wake are eligible to apply.
If you are interested in participating in the 2010 Congressional High School Arts Competition and you live in Orange county, contact your high school art teacher or click on the Guidelines and Student Release Form links at the top of this page for an application form and guidelines.
